Gary Hill, 80, of Rural Minot, died suddenly on June 2, 2021, in a Minot hospital from injuries sustained in an ATV accident. His loving family was at his side.

Gary Lee Hill was born on November 10, 1940, in Minot ND, to Elmond and Edith (Swenson) Hill. He was raised on a farm in Sundre Township of Ward County, southeast of Minot, and attended Bell School. Gary graduated from Minot High School in 1959 and from Minot State College in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. It was in a Chemistry Lab at Minot High School that he met his future wife, Becky Anderson. He completed his student teaching within the Minot Public School system, and decided to farm with his father.

Gary married Rebecca Anderson on June 8, 1963 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Minot. They made their home in Rural Minot, and together established Sundre Sand and Gravel in 1971. They had just celebrated their 50 th Anniversary in business in May of 2021.

Gary especially enjoyed spending time with his Grandkids, time in nature, hunting, fishing, ornithology and guiding family and friends to the hottest fishing spots or on a successful hunt. Hunting and fishing highlights were special times in Alaska, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon and Washington. Planning his next big adventure and figuring out the solution to a mechanical challenge or problem was always a major topic of conversation and discussion for Gary. A dream of his was to take his boat to Alaska to fish for tuna and halibut. Gary enjoyed many hobbies, including loading shells, polishing agates, adding to his National Geographic magazine collection, and tending and marketing his sweet corn. Gary even planted a special field of corn for "his" deer. He also enjoyed raising Brittany Spaniels, pheasants, and trees, watching the History Channel and wildlife.

Gary's loving family includes his wife of almost 58 years: Becky; Sons: Shane (Melissa) Hill and Sheldon Hill, all of Minot; grandchildren: PFC (USMC) Elliott Flood-Johnson, LCpl (USMC) Jacksen Hill, Parker Hill, and Charlotte "Little Charlie" Hill (the first granddaughter in the family for several generations) and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, brother: Floyd Hill, in-laws: Rubert and Gena Anderson and brother-in-law: Richard Anderson.
