Gary Brevig, 82, Minot and longtime Purchasing Director for the Minot Public School System, died suddenly on June 6, 2026 from an apparent heart attack. His daughter was at his side.

Gary Dean Brevig was born on March 19, 1944 in Conway, ND to Albert and Wanda (Otto) Brevig. He was raised and educated in Sawyer ND and graduated from Sawyer High School in 1962.

Gary married Lois Krueger, his high school sweetheart, on July 17, 1964 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church – Sawyer. They made their home in Minot where he was employed by the Minot Public School System, serving as the Purchasing Director for 30+ years. Following his retirement, he established a Supply Warehouse for numerous Class B schools in the surrounding area. He also drove bus for the Minot Public School activities and served as a courtesy driver for Ryan Auto in later years.

After retiring, Gary and Lois spent over 20 years enjoying their cabin and good friends at Mouse River Park. After Lois passed away in 2022, Gary sold the cabin and continued to reside in Minot with his daughter Tracy and the grand cats.

Gary was a longtime member of the Minot Y’s Men, Minot Gun Club and Minot Chamber of Commerce where he helped coordinate the Minot Air Force Base wild game feeds for many years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed gardening, making soup and sharing both with friends and family. He was also considered everyone’s handyman and was always willing to help build, remodel or fix almost anything. He was a wealth of knowledge and loved to share his stories, if you were willing to listen.

Gary is survived by his daughter: Tracy; siblings: Dwayne (Jessica) Brevig and Bonnie (George) Miller all of Dillon MT; in-laws: Doris Smestad, Lloyd Krueger, Mary Smestad, Kenneth Krueger, Lyle Krueger, Norman Krueger, Sandy Murphy and Candis Zietz and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, wife, siblings: Ron, Donna and Thomas Brevig.

Celebration of the Life of Gary Brevig: Friday, June 12, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Redeemer’s Church – Minot.

Interment will be in Rosehill Memorial Park – Minot.

Visitation: Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home – Minot.
