Gary Berg , 66, Kief, died Sunday, February 17, 2008, in a Minot hospital.
Gary was born July 17, 1941, in McClusky, ND the son of Alvin "Bud" and Irene (Michalenko) Berg. He graduated from McClusky High School in 1959. He attended the University of North Dakota and later Dickinson State University pursuing his degree in funeral service. Gary enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1963, where he worked in Germany as decoder of messages to enemies of the US. Following honorable service to his country, he was discharged in 1966.
Gary was united in marriage to Joyce Owen, on January 29, 1972, in Las Vegas, NV. They resided in Los Angeles, CA, where he worked as a computer programmer at White Memorial Hospital in East Los Angeles for a number of years. In 1979, following the death of his grandparents, they moved to Kief, ND and lived on the Michalenko family homestead, managing the families land over the years. They lived on the farm until his ill health required the move to Minot in December 2006.
He was a member of Balfour Lutheran Church, Balfour, ND. Gary was a very talented man, gifted in playing the trumpet. He enjoyed watching all sports on television and enjoyed participating in bowling and a game of pool.
Surviving family includes: Loving wife of 36 years: Joyce, Minot; Sister: Nancy (David) Mower, Kilmarnock, VA; Nieces: Susan (Tom) Foulkes, and Katherine Mower; and numerous cousins
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, and nephew: Michael Mower.
Funeral:
Friday, February 22, 2008, at 10:00 a.m., in the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Interment:
Kief Cemetery, Kief, ND - later in the spring
Visitation:
Thursday, February 21, 2008, from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., in the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.
