Freda Helm, 92, Minot, died Saturday, March 10, 2018 in a Minot nursing home.
Freda was born December 19, 1925, in Bismarck, ND to Fred and Kathryn (Fetzer) Binder. She grew up in Bismarck and Devils Lake and obtained her high school Diploma from Devils Lake High School in 1944. She completed nurses training in 1947 through the Cadet Nurses Corps in North Dakota. She continued her education at Augsberg College in Minneapolis, earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English in 1951.
Freda was united in marriage to Howard Helm August 19, 1951, in Minot. They made their home in Minot. Freda was employed at Trinity Hospital as a Registered Nurse working in the obstetrics until 1966. She was later employed as the Night Supervisor at Trinity Nursing Home until she retired in 1987. Freda assisted Howard with the operation of Helm's Grocery. He died February 11, 2005.
Freda was a member of Our Redeemer's Church and the Sons of Norway, both of Minot, along with Gideon's International. She enjoyed listening to music and the arts, especially local entertainers, plays or symphonies. She was a veracious reader, avid puzzle and card player, attended the Norsk Hostfest each year and loved to attend her grandchildren's activities.
Freda's loving family includes children, Anne (Terry) Davis, Minot, Matthew Helm, Fargo, ND and Nathan Helm, Bismarck, ND; 3 grandchildren to include, Garret Davis, Brandon (Kaity) Davis and Ashley Davis; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Freda was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Howard, sons, Kristofer and Timothy; sisters, Irene Gustafson Ward, Adeline Binder, Virginia Sell and a brother, Don Edwards.
Funeral service:
Friday, March 16, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Brethren Church, Minot.
Interment:
Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.
Visitation:
Thursday, March 15th from 3:00-6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials:
preferred to Gideon's International or Our Redeemers Church.
