Fred Leroy Hill, 80, West Fargo and formerly of Lignite and Portal died on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 in a Fargo healthcare center under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Fred was born on December 23, 1934 in Akeley, MN to Leonard and Lola Hasbrouck. He was raised by Glenn and Lola Hill in Akeley and Lima MT where Fred graduated from high school in 1953.
Fred married Doris Jean Talbott on February 15, 1957 in Butte, MT. They made their home in Bemidji MN while Fred attended Bemidji State College. Following his graduation in 1964 with a degree in elementary education, Fred taught school in Grace City, Inkster, Minnewauken, Pingree, Dodge and at Burke Central. Fred retired from teaching in 2000 and resided in Portal. Doris Jean died on March 4, 1993. Fred moved to West Fargo in December of 2011 to be closer to his son's family.
Fred was a former member of the National Education Association, North Dakota Education Association and Elks Lodge in Jamestown. In his free time, he especially enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, hunting, reading, watching various sporting events, spending time with family, pitching horse shoes and playing pinochle.
Fred's loving family includes his son: Mike (Sue) Hill of Fargo; grandchildren: Derek (Tina), Aaron (Brianne) and Chelsey; great grandchild: Graham; sisters: Pat (Donald) Johnson of Bovey, MN and Lorraine (Nathan) Hill of Lawton, OK and brother: Tony Hill of Lawton, OK and several nieces and nephews.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers: Robert and Glenn Hill and sister: Lillian Beacraft.
Celebration of the Life of Fred Hill: Friday, May 29, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park - Minot
Visitation: Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the Hospice of the Red River Valley.
