Fred Ehr, 96, Minot died on Thursday, July 18, 2019 in a Mohall nursing home.
Ferdinand LeRoy Ehr was born on October 24, 1922 in Minot to Fred H. and Elizabeth (Hawley) Ehr. He was raised on a farm near Minot and attended country schools prior to graduating from Minot High School. Fred enlisted in the U.S. Navy on December 2, 1942 and served until his honorable discharge on May 19, 1946. He served with the 83 rd C.B.(s) and had received a Good Conduct Medal. Following his discharge he returned to the Minot area where he was employed by the Great Northern Railroad as an engineer for the next 35 years.
Fred married Margaret "Dolly" Olson in 1966. They made their home west of Minot on County Road 15. Fred retired in 1983. Margaret died on March 24, 2009.
Fred was a member of the Cornerstone Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon for many years. Also, he was a member of the Y's Mens Club, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Elks Lodge. He especially enjoyed traveling, horseback riding, attending rodeos and horse shows and serving as a horse judge. He was especially proud of having served as Chairman of the Y's Men's Rodeo.
Fred is survived by his stepchildren: Jim (Polly) Olson of Novato CA, Richard Olson and Robert (Joy) Olson all of MInot and Linda Everson of Dickinson; stepgrandchildren: Christopher, Eric, Brianna, Derrick, Curtis and Kenny and several cousins.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, wife and half-sister Leona Hawley.
Celebration of the Life of Fred Ehr: Thursday, July 25, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in Cornerstone Presbyterian Church - Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park - Minot.
Visitation: Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the Cornerstone Presbyterian Church Deacon's Fund.
