Forrest B. Baker , 93, Moses Lake, WA, formerly of Kent, WA and Minot, died Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at the home of his grandson.
Forrest was born May 8, 1915, in Wolford, ND. He was one of four children born to William and Dora (Blake) Baker. Forrest attended a rural Wolford school until moving into Wolford with his grandmother to attend high school. After high school he joined the CCC's. Forrest served in Pierre, SD, Hayes Center, NE, and Foxholm, ND. He moved to Minot in 1937 and married Ruth Alm on August 15, 1937 in Minot. Forrest drove delivery trucks for two Minot companies before securing work with Westland Oil Company in 1938. He started in a service station and progressed through various positions until being appointed general sales manager of Westland Oil Company. He held that position until January of 1970 when Westland was sold to Canadian Hydrocarbons of Calgary, Alberta. Forrest was asked to take custody and control of the new company for US operations. Forrest was just finishing his year as president of the Minot Chamber of Commerce. He was Vice President of US operations until 1973. Forrest and Ruth moved to Kent, WA in 1973 where he started a new career in real estate. He became manager of the Ruth Real Estate office in Maple Valley, WA in 1975. Forrest sold real estate until 1995 when he retired to take care of Ruth who suffered a stroke and later passed away on July 9, 1998.
Forrest was a member of the Minot Lions for over 50 years. His favorite hobbies were watching the kids' games in High School and college and watchinghis favorite baseball teams.
His loving family includes : Daughter and son-in-law: Sharon and Gary Rovig,Sparks, NV; Sons and daughter-in-law: Bruce and Ollie Baker, Moses Lake, WA, and Robert Baker, Samamish, WA; Grandchildren: Sherilyn Sexsmith, Daniel Rovig, Steven Rovig, Sean Baker, Jaimie Torset, Jeffrey Baker, James Baker, and Karen Locke; Great grandchildren: Amanda Riley, Amie Riley, Caitlin Locke, Jordan Locke, Jacob Locke, Forrest Baker, River Baker, Jacob Rovig, Kayla Rovig, Katelyn Rovig, Emma Rovig, Emma Torset, Myranda Baker, Paul Simard, Kaley Baker, Jeannie Baker, Luis Baker, Lisa Baker, Aldercy Baker, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Forrest was preceded in death by his parents William and Dora Baker, wife, Ruth, sisters, Primula Wilkes, Frances Klepetka, and brother, Darl Baker.
Funeral service:
Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in Christ Lutheran Church, Minot;
Interment:
Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot;
Visitation:
Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Christ Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
