Obituary

Floyd Lewis Hanson, 91, Minot and formerly of Jamestown died on Saturday, December 15, 2007 in a Velva nursing home.

Floyd was born on November 1, 1916 near Jud, ND to Peter and Mary (Dalager) Hanson. He was the oldest of seven children and was raised on the family farm. He attended Glenmore Township rural school prior to graduating from Jud High School in 1936. As a young adult he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in the Red Wing, MN area.

Floyd married Pearl V. Edwards on November 14, 1940 in Jamestown, ND. They lived in Nortonville, ND where he worked as a truck driver. In 1944, he began his career with Montgomery Ward Department Store in Jamestown, ND. The family moved to Minot in 1950 when he became manager of the department store's tire department there. He was well known by area farmers to whom he sold hundreds of grain bins and tractor tires. He retired from Wards after 30 years and then went to work for Sears as a salesman. He retired in 1986. Pearl died on December 6, 2003. Floyd moved to Edgewood Vista for several months prior to residing in an adult foster care facility for three years. He had recently moved to the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva.

Floyd was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church - Minot where he was a very dedicated financial secretary for many years. He was a former member of Christ Lutheran Church and Vincent United Methodist Church both Minot and he was a member of the Elk's Lodge and Eagles Aerie both in Minot. Floyd was a master when it came to numbers and could add a column of figures faster than anyone could with an adding machine or calculator.
