Obituary

Floyd M. Dean, 88, Minot, died Sunday, December 21, 2008 in his home surrounded by his loving family.

Floyd was born March 27, 1920 at Webster, South Dakota, the son of Marshall and Ella (Johnson) Dean. He was raised and educated at Webster and assisted with the operation of the family farm there. He graduated from Webster High School in 1938, and entered into active duty with the U.S. Army. He honorably served his country from January 27, 1942 with the 266th Army Engineering Battalion during World War II, until receiving his honorable discharge in 1945.

Floyd attended electrical school in Chicago and returned to Webster. He was employed in Aberdeen, prior to forming his own electrical business in Webster. He moved to Minot in 1954, and was united in marriage to Elvera Quandt on May 5, 1956 at Makoti. They made their home in Minot throughout the years, where he was employed with Holmes Electric for 17 years, and later with area power plants as an electrician. He retired in 1984.

Floyd was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Minot, where he served as an usher. He was a former member of the Minot American Legion and V.F.W. Posts. He had also been a member of the local IBEW for more than 50 years. Floyd enjoyed fishing, traveling, reading and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

His loving family includes: wife of fifty-two years: Elvera Dean, Minot; children: Dennis (Mari) Dean, Mandan, Roger (Carol) Dean, Minot, Lynette (Kent) Wood, Minot; 11 grandchildren: Christopher, Marshall, Preston, Jessica, Mandy, Nathan, Mike, Joey, Sarah, Emily, and Chrissy; great-grandchildren: Brandon, Braydon, Ashley, Matthew, Jeremy, Lucas, Christian, Caleb & Alex.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, great grandson, Jonathan, and brother, Donald.

Funeral service: Friday, December 26, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. in Zion Lutheran Church, Minot;
Interment:
Veteran's section of Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot;
Visitation:
Thursday from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot;
