Obituary

Floyd J. Braaten, 86, Minot, died Thursday, November 01, 2012, in a Minot hospital.

Floyd was born June 3, 1926, in Bottineau County, near Russell, ND to Calmer and Anna (Rice) Braaten. He was raised near Russell and was educated at Layton Township School. Following his formal schooling, he was employed by area farmers near Upham, ND.

Floyd entered the US Army on September 28, 1950 during the Korean Conflict serving his country honorably until being discharged on September 15, 1952.

Floyd was joined in marriage to Maralyn Waters on October 11, 1952 in Bottineau, ND. They lived first in Upham, ND and then moved to Russell, ND. He assisted Ivan Goheen with his farming operation until they moved to Minot in May of 1957. Floyd became employed as the head mechanic for North Hill Bowl working 54 years until semi-retiring in 2009. He continued to work part-time until 2011.

Floyd was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and the American Legion, both of Minot. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, spending time with family, playing cards and 7 a.m. coffee at North Hill Bowl.

His family includes loving wife of 60 years, Maralyn, Minot; children, David (Elaine) Braaten, Minot, Kathy (Robert) Wiedrich, Cathay, ND, Linda (Alan) Beyreis, Garrison, ND and Pam (Steve) Seibert, Minot, ND; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; sisters, Viola Latendresse, Upham, ND, Mary Ann Lafontaine, Minot, ND and Ruth Latendresse, Upham, ND; brother, Leo (Pat) Braaten, Great Falls, MT and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Lola Brandt and Ella Miller, brothers, Bob, Gene, Donald, Melvin and Vernon Braaten.

Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 5, 2012 at the new location of Faith United Methodist Church, 5900 Highway 83 N., Minot, ND.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Sunday, November 4, 2012 from noon until 4:30 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred.
