Ferne Violet Davick, 96, longtime Minot resident, died Tuesday, May 21, 2019, in a Minot Hospital.

Ferne was born January 20, 1923, at Harvey, North Dakota, the daughter of Michael and Lydia (Kaftan) Liebelt. She was raised and educated at Harvey and graduated from Harvey High School in 1940. She attended Minot State Teacher's College for two years and obtained a teaching certificate.

Ferne was united in marriage to Norbert Schimke on June 28, 1942, at Bowdon, North Dakota. They made their home at Sawyer for one year, prior to moving to Minot. Norbert died on July 5, 1971.

Ferne married Carl Davick in August, 1975. They made their home in Minot. Carl died in June, 1981. She continued to live in Minot, where she worked as a bailiff at the Ward County Courthouse for more than 20 years.

Ferne attended First Lutheran Church, Minot, and volunteered at Trinity Hospital, embroidering baby quilts to sell in the gift shop. She enjoyed spending time with her family, including her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Her hobbies and interests included quilting and embroidery work.  She also volunteered at the Shrine Circus for many years.

Her loving family includes: children, Cecil (Julie) Schimke, Grand Forks, ND, and Donna (Emery) Knudson, Minot; step-children, Rev. Wade (Pam) Davick, Winona, MN, Connie Ede, Minneapolis, MN, and Dorene Davick, Bloomington, MN; 6 grandchildren to include:  Stacey (Robin) Doege, Stephanie (Kevin Hunsted) Funk, Heather Schimke, Traci (Matt) Bluel, John (Cassie Carlson) Knudson, Mark (Nic Leggett) Knudson; 9 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 9 step-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ferne was preceded in death by her parents, husband's Norbert and Carl; sisters, Elizabeth Bechthold and Kathrin Liebelt; and brothers, Arthur Liebelt and Ardewin Liebelt.

Celebration of Life Service: Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Monday, May 27th from 3:00-6:00 pm in the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Minot Youth for Christ, Minot Commission on Aging, First Lutheran Church, or an organization of the donor's choice.
