Fern Stripe Bruhn, 88, Minot and formerly of Omaha NE, died on Monday, January 7, 2013 in a Minot hospital.

Fern Lorene Shafer was born on August 20, 1924, in Stella, Nebraska to Roy and Dora (Strand) Shafer. She was raised on a farm near Stella and graduated from Central High School in Omaha, Nebraska in 1941. She continued her education at Boyles Business College in Parkville, Missouri and at Metro Tech and the University of Nebraska Omaha both in Omaha.

Fern married Max Stripe on August 22, 1942, in Princeton, Missouri. They made their home in Omaha, NE, where she was employed by Fuchs Machinery. Following Max's death in 1972, she was employed as a real estate agent by CBS and BW Meyer real estate firms in Omaha for about six years.

Fern married Robert Bruhn on August 27, 1983 in Falls City, NE. They lived in Verdon, NE where she was employed as the town clerk. Robert died on February 17, 2010. Fern had moved to Minot to be closer to her son, Dr. Stephen Stripe, and his family and had resided at Edgewood Vista prior to moving to ManorCare Health Services.

Fern was a former member of the Hanscom - Park Methodist Church and Church of the Master Presbyterian Church both in Omaha and the Dawson Methodist Church in Dawson NE. She was an active member of the Order of Eastern Star in Humboldt NE and the Order of Foresters. She especially enjoyed reading, playing cards, dancing, knitting, sewing and home remodeling.

Fern's loving family includes, a son, Dr. Stephen (Stephanie) Stripe of Minot; grandchildren, Kevin Stripe, Minot and Carissa Stripe, Omaha, NE; great-grandchildren, Mason and Hailey; brother, Harold L. (Roberta) Shafer of Weslaco, TX and many nieces and nephews.

Fern was preceded in death by her parents and husbands, Max and Robert.

Celebration of the Life of Fern Stripe Bruhn : Monday, January 14, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in Crosby - Kunold Burket Funeral Home in Omaha NE.
Visitation and Reviewal will be on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
Interment will be in the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Omaha.
Memorials are preferred to the American Lung Association.
