Obituary

Faye Ann Hatlestad Herzog, 81, Minot, died Friday, February 8, 2013, in her home.

Faye was born February 27, 1931, in Minot, ND to John and Edith (Drake) Lithmanchuck. She was raised and educated in Minot until the passing of her father led to her adoption at age 14 by Stanley and Helen (Koenig) Kalabza. She moved with her parents to Max, ND, completing her education by correspondence through American School of Chicago, IL in 1949.

Faye was united in marriage to Howard Hatlestad on July 20, 1952, at Hope Lutheran Church in Sawyer, ND. Following a few moves around the area, they settled into the community of Max in 1960. She assisted Howard with their farming operation in addition to being employed as a cook at Debbie's Diner in Max for a number of years. She also held various positions in Minot and Garrison throughout her working years. Howard passed away on February 19, 1990.

She was a former member of Hope Lutheran Church in Sawyer, Concordia Lutheran Church in Benedict and Our Savior Lutheran Church in Max. Throughout the years, she was involved with the church choir, volunteer work, secretary/treasurer duties and as a Sunday school teacher.

Faye married Robert Herzog on July 8, 1995 in Max, ND. They moved to Minot later that same year. She became a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Minot.

She found enjoyment during her life with various activities. Sewing, quilting, and gardening were a few of her talents. She also made many wedding cakes for many newlyweds over the years. Yet, most important to Faye, was her family. She was delighted to spend every moment with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a loving and devoted wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma and friend. She will be missed but never forgotten in the hearts of her loved ones.

Her loving family includes her husband, Robert Herzog , Minot; a son, Glen (Joyce, deceased) Hatlestad , Douglas, ND and his daughters, Wendy (Jon) Snicale and Julie (Adam) Wilson and their daughter, Charlotte; a son, Gary Hatlestad , Roseau, MN and his daughter, Heidi Hatlestad and her children, Abbie and Alexis and his son, Jory (Lauren Hahn, fiance) Hatlestad and their child, Kayden; a son, Greg (LyNelle) Hatlestad, Chandler, AZ and their children, Stephanie Hatlestad and Joshua (Kristen) Hatlestad and their children, Noah and Nixon; a son, Guy (Melissa) Hatlestad , Velva, ND and his daughter, Jennifer (Jeff) Campbell and their children, Stella and Maddox and his daughter, Erin (Jason) Clark and their children, Olivia and Camden; and son, Gerald (Darcy) Hatlestad , Roseau, MN and his daughters, Brittni and Jasmyn Hatlestad; siblings, Rosie Zahn , Minot, ND, Linda Krueger , Minot, ND, Etta Marie Schulz , Perry, IA, and Frank Atz , Alliance, NE; stepchildren, Janice (Andy) Szichak , Minot and her son Jay Szichak, Sharon Shaffer , Linton, IN and her son, Donny Shaffer, and Rodney Herzog , Minot and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Faye was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Howard Hatlestad, brother, Edward Kalabza, sisters, Connie Carrich and Caroline Bouvette.

Funeral Service: Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Savior Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment: Our Savior Lutheran Cemetery, rural Max, ND (Spring 2013).
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
