Obituary

Evron Gordon Rostad, 90, Minot died on Sunday, May 8, 2016 in a Minot hospital.

Evron was born on January 27, 1926 in Minot to Edwin and Lily (Emerson) Rostad. He was reared and educated in Minot.

Ev was drafted into the U.S. Army on June 6, 1944. He served as a tank gunner with the 787th Tank Battalion in Austria, Germany and France. He received his honorable discharge as a Corporal on April 18, 1946 and returned to Minot. During his military service he received the EAME Theatre Ribbon with one Bronze Star, American Theatre Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal and World War II Medal.

He furthered his education by attending a watchmaking school in Kansas City in 1947. He returned to Minot where he was employed by Harry Steenstrup Sr. and eventually became his partner in the ownership and operation of Steenstrup Jewelers. His specialty was watch and jewelry repair.

While working at Steenstrup Jewelry he met Marilyn Christianson in 1956. She became his wife on July 16, 1959 in Minot, ND. They made their home in Minot where they were the proud parents of four sons: Todd, Tim, Randy and Jeffrey.

Ev became self-employed in watch and jewelry repair from 1964 until 1986 when he and Marilyn moved to Clearwater, FL and he became employed by Honeywell building gyroscopes for minuteman missiles. They moved to Brooksville, FL in 1994 and he returned to the watch and jewelry repair business by working independently for 23 stores. They returned to Minot in 2002, but Ev continued repairing watches and jewelry until 2015.

Evron was a former member of the Elks Lodge and especially enjoyed hunting, fishing and caring for his cats: Scooter, Maggie, Chance, Gabbie and Morris and bird: Alex, who called him "grandbud."

Evron's loving family includes his wife of 56 years: Marilyn; sons: Todd (Janelle), Tim (Anna) and Randy (Peggy) all of Minot; grandchildren: Andrew Rostad (Marquita) and Jennifer Rostad (Craig); stepgrandchildren: Colton, Courtney, Christine (Steven), and Catherine; great grandson: Jack; step great grandchildren: Olive, Flynn and Rhiley; sister: Beverly May of Minneapolis; special friend: Maria Magada and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Evron was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws: Roy and Edith Christianson, son: Jeff (2008) and brothers: Kenneth and Delvin Rostad.

Celebration of the Life of Evron Rostad: Friday, May 13, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. in Christ Lutheran Church - Minot.
Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery - Kenmare.
Visitation: Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the Charitable Foundations of the American Diabetes Association, V.F.W. or the donor's choice.
