Obituary

Everett Franklin Debertin, 89, Minot, passed on to his heavenly home on Saturday, March 5, 2016 in a Garrison Hospital.

Everett was born November 13, 1926 at Plaza, North Dakota, the son of Paul and Mollie (Berg) Debertin. The family made their home on a farm north of Parshall, where he was raised and educated at a country school near there. He graduated from Parshall High School and entered into active duty with the U.S. Merchant Marine on March 21, 1945. He honorably served his country during the Pacific Theatre of World War II and was discharged on June 6, 1945 from the U.S. Coast Guard.

Everett returned to North Dakota and enrolled at the North Dakota School of Forestry at Bottineau. He received a degree in Accounting and Business in 1947. Everett began working for Westland Oil Company in Minot. It was here that he met the love of his life, Cora Fiskum. They were united in marriage on October 15, 1950 at Augustana Lutheran Church in Minot. Everett was employed at Westland Oil Company as manager of the Tire and Automotive departments for more than 33 years. After the company was sold to Flying J and later Farstad Oil, he worked as the manager of the Lube and Oil division.

After retiring in 1980, he served as a caregiver for his wife, Cora who had Multiple Sclerosis for many years. She passed away on July 31, 2008. Everett lived at Edgewood Vista in Minot from 2011 until 2016. He had most recently been a resident at the Benedictine Living Center in Garrison.

Everett was a longtime member of Augustana Lutheran Church, Minot until it closed due to the 2011 flood. He had served on the Church council for several years. He transferred his membership to Christ Lutheran Church after the flood. He was active with the Golden K Kiwanis Club, Sons of Norway, American Legion Post #26, Makoti Threshers Association, Ward County Historical Society and Lincoln School PTA. He had served on the Minot City Council and was a supporter and believed in the mission of many organizations. He received the Minot Exchange Club's Golden Deeds Award, the Metigoshe Ministries Director's Reflection Award and the Kiwanis Foundation Vantine Fellowship Award for Education. Everett was a woodworker and enjoyed giving away nearly 4000 wooden heart pins. The family has requested if you received one of these pins that you would consider wearing it to Everett's visitation or service.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers at the Edgewood Vista of Minot, the Benedictine Living Center and Garrison Memorial Hospital for all of your love and care given to our Dad.
