Evelyn Shuman, 94, Minot, died Tuesday, January 13, 2015, in a Minot nursing home.
Evelyn was born April 22, 1920, in Omemee Township of Bottineau County, ND to Wallace and Etta (Arend) Pugh. She was reared and educated in Bottineau County, graduating from Omemee High School in 1937.
Evelyn was united in marriage to George Shuman on September 19, 1943 in Bottineau, ND. They made their home in Devils Lake prior to moving to Minot in 1947.
Evelyn enrolled in Bottineau's St. Andrew's School of Nursing in 1942. She completed her degree began her career as a Registered Nurse at Trinity Hospital. She also worked as a private nurse until retiring in the mid 1970's.
They spent summers at their cabin on Lake Metigoshe and the winter months in Mesa, AZ. They permanently moved to Mesa in 1986. George passed away on July 9, 1991. Evelyn continued her residency in Arizona until returning to Minot in 2004.
Evelyn was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Minot, Order of the Eastern Star and various bridge clubs. She enjoyed spending time at their cabin on Lake Metigoshe. She also was an avid reader and loved playing bridge, canasta and pinochle.
Evelyn is survived by her step-son, Rod Shuman, Jackson, TN; step-daughter-in-law, Roberta Shuman, Phoenix, AZ; step-grandchildren, Jill Jones, Vonnie (Bob) Jarozs, IL, Dennis (Missy) Shuman, AZ, Jimmy (Barbara) Shuman, WA, Judi Hubbs, CA, Vic Vickerman, CA, Gail Christianson, IL, Gloria Christianson, TN, Greta Martin, CA, Geri Dooley, CA, Ginger (Brian) Roe, CA and many step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters, Hattie Pugh and Sena Lillegard, and step-son, Arnold Shuman; step-daughters, Inez Vickerman, Bev Christianson and Vanda Landis.
Celebration of Life Service: 1:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot, ND
Visitation will be held two hours prior to the start at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Immanuel Baptist Church, Minot.
