Evelyn Marianne Mettler, 91, Minot, formerly of Upham, passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 in a Minot adult foster care home.

Evelyn was born on April 24, 1926 to Oscar and Sanna (Wekseth) Vikan in Bottineau, ND. She was raised and educated in the Bottineau area and continued her education at the Bottineau School of Forestry. She was employed at Charnholms Department Store in Bottineau from 1941-1948.

Evelyn was united in marriage to Arvel Mettler (the love of her life) on January 4, 1948 in Bottineau. They made their home on a farmstead in Deep River Township, near Upham. From this union two children were born, David and Diane. After retiring, they moved to Minot in 1992. They spent several winters in Texas and in 2010 moved to assisted living in Minot.

Evelyn's loving family includes : husband of 69 years, Arvel, Minot; children: David Mettler, Minot and Diane (Clyde) Thorne, Minot; 4 grandchildren: Dustin (Jennifer) Thorne, HI, Zachary (Amber) Thorne, Minot and Jeremy Thorne, NE; Christopher (Amber) Mettler, CA; 4 great grandchildren, Maya & Kayla Thorne, Eslie & Zander Mettler; siblings: Virgil (Janice) Vikan, CA, Carol Tilton, KS and Delores Belter, IL; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, brother and two sisters.

Funeral Service : Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Redeemer's Church, Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Monday, August 7th from 3:00 p.m. 6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the American Parkinson's Disease Association.
