Evelyn Fjeld , a resident of the Kensington in Williston, since November 1, 2005 died Sunday evening, July 2, 2006, at Mercy Medical Center in Williston.
Evelyn M. Fjeld was born January 7, 1915, to Herman and Minnie (Seney) Newman at Sawyer, North Dakota. Her Dad reminded her many times of the snowstorm that was raging at the time. She graduated from Sawyer High School in 1933. She then attended Minot State Teachers College and earned her teaching certificate. She taught school at Roosevelt School District #58 for three years. She loved children and remained close to them as she worked as a cook at South Prairie School for five years.
She was united in marriage to Kendrick G. Fjeld on June 10, 1937, in Minot, North Dakota, at Bethany Lutheran Church with Pastor Marcus Lewis officiating. Her sister Edna and Ted Tofstad were the attendants. Together they made their home on a farm south of Minot, ND. She enjoyed having a garden and helping her husband with the dairy farm, raising small grains, horses were always present. The couple had two children, an infant son who died at birth and daughter, Sharon. Kendrick died at Minot, ND, on June 11, 1995. Evelyn continued to make Minot her home until moving to Williston to be near her daughter, Sharon.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter Sharon (Garry) Huber of Williston, ND; her granddaughters LeAnn (Mike) Keller also of Williston, ND, and Paula (Mark) Kitzenberg of Billings, MT; and great grandchildren Taylor Keller, Katherine Kitzenberg, and Cole Kitzenberg; brother Raymond (Ruby) Newman of Minot, ND; sister, Edna Tofstad, of Minot, ND; step-sister Ardis (Alvin) Lesteberg of Velva, ND; sisters-in-law Mildred Newman of Minot, ND, and Blanche Newman of Northwood, ND. Nieces and Nephews were always special to Evelyn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant son, brothers; Howard Newman, Walter Newman, Ralph Newman, and Gerald Newman, step-brothers Roy Fullmer and Otis Fullmer, and step-sister Dorothy Hage.
The family wants to thank the staff at the Kensington, Mercy Hospital and Mercy Hospice for the loving care they gave Mother (grandmother) during her final days of battle with cancer.
Funeral services:
10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 8, 2006, at Saron Lutheran Church SW of Minot.
Interment:
Saron Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Memorials:
Memorials are preferred to Saron Lutheran Cemetery or to the charity of the donors' choice.
Visitation:
Friday, July 7, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Thomas Family Funeral Home in Minot, and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
