Obituary

Evelyn Dennis, 107, Minot, went to be with Lord on Friday, February 8, 2019, in a Garrison nursing home.

Evelyn was born on June 12, 1911, in St. Boswells, Saskatchewan, to John and Genevieve (Gostischef) Hotz.  She was raised and educated in that area.  She attended college for one year before enrolling in Peggy's Beauty College in Minot. Evelyn met her future husband, Bill Dennis, Sr., while attending school in Minot. In 1938, they wed in Minot.  They temporarily made their home in Sheridan, WY, where Bill was employed by Gamble Robinson Wholesale Grocery.  They returned to Minot in 1939 where they raised their two sons and maintained a primary residence for the remainder of their lives.

During her professional career, Evelyn was employed at several Minot beauty salons, including Peggy's, Benny's, Ruelle's and Goldie's.  She also managed Ruelle's Salon for seventeen years before operating her own salon, Evelyn's Beauty Shop, in Minot's Midwest Federal Building. She owned and operated this business for fifteen years.  She participated in local, state, and national associations of hairdressers and was a member of the Cosmetology Association of North Dakota.  She received special recognition and an award for fifty years of service as a hair dresser.

After retiring, Bill and Evelyn spent eighteen winters in Indio, CA.  Throughout her life, Evelyn was a member of First Baptist Church. Her hobbies and special interests included knitting and crocheting quilts for underprivileged children, painting, and staying current on local and national news. Most recently, Evelyn resided at Marion Heights, Trinity Retirement Home, Brentmoor, and the Benedictine Living Center in Garrison.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, John and Genevieve; husband, Bill Dennis, Sr.; granddaughter, Amy Dennis; and siblings:  Pearl Becker, Marian Morden, Hazel Hotz, and Howard, Vernon, Wallace, Arthur, Clarence and Dorland Hotz.

Evelyn's loving family includes her children: Bill (Helen) Dennis of Minot and Craig (Patricia) Dennis of Dickinson; grandchildren: Kurt (Karen) Dennis of Hypoluxo, FL; Jody (Myron) Martin of Bismarck, ND; Lisa ( Colonel Mohammed A., Jr., Ret., USAF) Khan of Huntsville, AL; and Lori (Marvel Morel) Dennis of Dickinson, ND; great grandchildren: Dr. Alyssa, Kyle (Julie), and Bill (Sydney Harvey) Martin; Lieutenant Jordan (Jessica) Dennis, NAVY, and Garrett Dennis; Noah and Brady Morel; Captain Mohammed (Lydia) Khan III, USA, and First Lieutenant Simeon (Molly Foster) Khan, USA; great-great grandchildren: Katherine, Sophia, and Elizabeth Martin; Jane Dennis; Lorelei and Soraya Khan; brother: Keith Hotz of Cathedral City, CA, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Celebration of the life of Evelyn Dennis:  Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Minot.
Interment will be in Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation:  Tuesday, February 12, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Men's Winter Refuge, First Baptist Church, or Souris Valley Animal Shelter, all in Minot.
