Eva Oas , 98 , Minot, formerly of rural Columbus, ND, died Tuesday, May 12, 2015 in a Minot nursing home.
Eva was born December 28, 1916 in Leaf Mountain Township of Burke County, North Dakota to Evan and Clara (Brusven) Hoff. She completed her education in the country schoolhouse of Leaf Mountain Township. As a young adult, Eva worked for area families tending to duties of their households.
Eva was united in marriage to Norman Oas on June 4, 1938, in Lignite, ND. Their home was established on a farmstead in Leaf Mountain Township until they moved to Fay Township in 1946, both located near Columbus. They tended to a small grains and cattle operation for over 50 years until Norman's health moved them off the farm to Minot in 1990. They spent winters in Arizona and were one of the first residents of Edgewood Vista community in Minot, where she would remain a resident following Norman's death in 2001 until entering Manorcare Health Services in April 2015.
Eva was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Columbus, where she was active in its ladies aide group for many years. She also found time to knit, crochet, read and was also known to do macram. Her green thumb was also well trained with many years of gardening and canning to her credit. She will be missed for her loving nature and devotion to her family, a true woman of the North Dakota prairie.
