Eunice Edith Stevick, 98, Minot, and formerly of rural Des Lacs died Monday, December 1, 2008 in a Minot nursing home.

Eunice was born to John and Thelka Matzdorf on January 21, 1910 on a farm south of Berthold, ND. She was the 7th child in a family that included four brothers and four sisters.

Eunice attended grammar school in a one room school, which also served as the place of worship. In those days Eunice either walked or rode horse to school. Eunice graduated from Berthold High School in 1928 and her "Pa" mortgaged his horses so she could attend Minot State Teachers College. Eunice obtained a standard teaching certificate and began teaching that Fall. Eunice taught school for 30 plus years and retired from teaching in the late 1960's.

Eunice married Wayland Stevick on November 22, 1933 when they eloped to Bottineau, ND. They lived on several farms in Ward County including a farm in Tolgen Township of Ward County for more than 37 years. While living on the farm they raised their two children, roger and Susan. They moved to Minot in 1985. Wayland "Pedad" Stevick died on January 29, 1999. Eunice resided at Brentmoor prior to moving to Trinity Homes.

Eunice was a member of the Rose Valley Lutheran Church for over 50 years and made many quilts for the church and her family. She especially enjoyed gardening. Eunice and Wayland enjoyed traveling in the U.S. and on one trip to the Black Hills in SD, they only paid 9 cents a gallon for gas.

Her loving family includes: daughter, Susan (Ron); granddaughters, Jill and Sue (Robin); 4 great-grandchildren, Travis, Jesse, Amanda, and Austin; daughter-in-law, Lou; and special niece and nephew, June and David.

Eunice was preceded in death by her husband, Wayland; son, Roger; parents; 4 brothers and 4 sisters.

Funeral Service: Thursday, December 4, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. in the Rose Valley Lutheran Church south of Des Lacs, ND
Interment will be in the spring of 2009.
Visitation: Wednesday, December 3, 2008, from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Rose Valley Lutheran Church.
