Eunice June Marie Johnson, 87, Minot, formerly of Norwich, died Sunday, August 8, 2010 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Eunice was born June 11, 1923 on the family farm near Norwich, North Dakota, the second daughter to Norwegian parents, Carl and Minnie (Olsen) Olson. She attended Eastside Consolidated School and graduated from Surrey High School in 1940. She attended Minot Business College and was employed during her younger years at Velva Implement, Winston and Newell Grocery, McCannel Clinic in Minot, and for a time at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Los Angeles, California.
Eunice returned to North Dakota, where she was united in marriage to Vincent Johnson on January 27, 1946 at Minot, just two weeks after he returned from World War II. Throughout the years, she was employed at Hancock Motors, the City of Minot Assessor's Office and with Mattson Construction for more than 27 years as a bookkeeper. In addition, she and Vince built the KOA Campgrounds in 1965, which they operated for several years, surviving the flood of 1969. They sold the business in 1973. She retired in 1983 and they purchased a travel trailer and enjoyed 18 years of "the greatest life anyone could imagine." She and Vince enjoyed seeing the sights in forty-nine states and Guam, the ultimate place being Palm Springs, California.
Eunice was the best mom and best grandma to Angie and Benjamin. She enjoyed crocheting, line-dancing and pinochle.
Her loving family includes : husband of sixty-four years, Vince, Minot; daughter, Pamela Orth, Minot; granddaughter, Angela (Lee) Marten; great-grandson, Benjamin Marten; sister, Ruby Mogard, Norwich; step-grandchildren: Kaylie and Tyler Marten; step great-grandchildren: Makenna Duvall and Oscar Marten.
Eunice was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Clarence, Edwin, and Marlin, a sister, Evelyn, and two infant sons at birth.
Funeral service
: Monday, August 16, 2010 at 1:00 p.m.in Norwich Lutheran Church.
Interment:
Norwich Lutheran Cemetery, rural Norwich.
Visitation:
Sunday from Noon-5:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Norwich Lutheran Cemetery or an organization of the donor's choice.
