Eugene A Wunderlich , 96, Minot, died Tuesday, June 15, 2021, in a Minot nursing home.

Eugene was born September 7, 1924, on the family farm in Olivia Township of McHenry County near Voltaire, ND to Walter and Esther (Bartz) Wunderlich. He spent his childhood in Olivia Township and graduated with the Class of 1942 from Velva High School. He assisted his family on the farm until enlisting in the US Navy on November 11, 1946.  He served honorably until his discharge on November 15, 1947. He returned to North Dakota and moved to Minot.

Eugene was united in marriage to Agnes Kinsella on May 12, 1948, in Minot at First Lutheran Church. They called Minot home and were blessed with three children.

Eugene started work on the Great Northern Railroad in August of 1949 as a switchman and worked in the same capacity after the merger in 1970 for Burlington Northern Railroad. He retired after 37 years of faithful service to the railroad. Agnes passed away March 7, 2008.

Eugene was a member of First Lutheran Church, Elks Lodge and the American Legion, all of Minot. He also belonged to the United Transportation Union. Eugene was often found with a book in his hand or out in his yard tending to his grass, garden or greenhouse. He was a history buff who on many occasions was called to assist his grandchildren with a school project or picked first for trivia. He will be missed deeply for his 96 years of wisdom and knowledge that he shared to all who were blessed to be in his life.

Eugene is survived by his children Diane Coulson, Escondido, CA, Gary Wunderlich, Minot, ND and David (Janel) Wunderlich, Minot, ND; grandchildren Lauren Coulson, Levi (Elizabeth) Wunderlich, Heather Wunderlich, Marlee (Reiss) Leonard and Erica Wunderlich; great-grandchildren Caden, Anson, Sloane and Oskar; brother Walter Wunderlich, Camarillo, CA and numerous nieces and nephews.

Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, wife Agnes, brothers Glen, Vernon and Donald Wunderlich; daughter-in-law Kathy Wunderlich and sisters-in-law Ursula and Annis Wunderlich
