Obituary

Emma Viola Vix , 93, Minot, formerly of Sawyer, died Wednesday, October 23, 2013 in a Minot adult fostercare home.

Emma was born to Henry and Florentina Priester Marzolf on October 27, 1919 on a farm near Anamoose, North Dakota. The family moved to Drake in 1926, where she attended school through the eighth grade. Emma committed her life to Christ on December 1, 1934 in a revival meeting and was baptized at the Evangelical Church in Drake on June 20, 1935.

In 1942, she moved to Minot and lived with her married sister, Leone, while she worked as a waitress at the Grand Caf. She met Arthur Vix while in Minot and they were married on March 1, 1946. Emma and Art moved to a farm near Velva in 1947, where they raised their family and farmed until moving to Minot in 1979. After retiring, they were members of Bible Fellowship Church before attending First Baptist Church of Minot.

The last four months of her life, Emma lived at Unsong's Assisted Living facility and her family would like to express appreciation for the wonderful care she received there.

Emma was an excellent pianist and became pianist at her church at age 14. She also played piano at the Calvary Church in Minot in the 1940's and played and sang on the Calvary Gospel radio program. For many years, she was pianist and organist at the Sawyer Mennonite Brethren Church where she also directed choirs. She gave piano lessons for many years.

Emma's loving family includes : sons, Bob (Carol) Vix, Minot, Rolly Vix, Olathe, KS; daughter Kathy (Wayne) Holdeman, Minot; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Violet Trihub, Anchorage, AK and Lavile (Ray) Stip, Minot, ND and several nieces and nephews.

Emma was preceded in death by her parents, husband and an infant son, Arthur David Vix and ten brothers and sisters.

Funeral Service : Monday, October 28, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. in First Baptist Church, Minot.
Interment : Sawyer Mennonite Brethren Cemetery, rural Sawyer.
Visitation: Sunday, October 27, 2013 from noon - 5:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Samaritan's Purse.
