Elsie Irene Marsh , 88, Minot, died Saturday, January 4, 2014 in a Minot Hospital.
Elsie was born May 3, 1925 on the family farm in Rolette County, North Dakota the daughter of Alfred and Albena (Bauer) Biberdorf. She was raised on the farm and educated at country schools in Rolette County before graduating from Willow City High School in 1944.
Elsie was united in marriage to Lyal Marsh on November 19, 1944 at Willow City. They moved to Minot in 1947, where they continued to live throughout the years. Along with raising their five children, Elsie did child care in her home for many families. She was then employed at Trinity Nursing Home as a dietary aide/supervisor from 1967-1987. She retired in 1987. After her retirement, Elsie did volunteer work for Dr. Darrell Williams and Trinity Hospital. Lyal died on September 25, 1990.
Elsie was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where she was active in Martha Circle and the LWML (Lutheran Women's Missionary League.) She was also a former member of the Church Choir and had taught Sunday School for a time. Elsie enjoyed bowling, quilting, embroidering and reading. She was also a charter fan of the daytime drama, "As The World Turns" and watched it from its inception in 1956 to its conclusion in 2010. She loved to bake and was especially known for her delicious pies.
Elsie's loving family includes, children, Carol (Gary) Jacobson, Chandler, AZ, Larry (Carole) Marsh, Maple Grove, MN, Beverly (Terry) Kongelf, Minot, Sharon Lippincott (Steve Kottsick), Minot; daughter in law, Kathy Marsh, Brooklyn Park, MN; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; brother, Marvin Biberdorf, Minot and a sister, Marilynn Adell, San Tan Valley, AZ; many nieces and nephews.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lyal, son, Don Marsh, brothers, Fred, Edgar, Walter and Otto.
Funeral service:
Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment:
Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation:
Tuesday, January 7, 2014 from 2:00-7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to St Paul's Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall or the LWML.
