Eloise Lorraine Nordby , 86, Minot and formerly of Souris, died on Friday, May 15, 2015 in a Minot hospital.
Eloise Lorraine Nordby, 86 of Minot was born June 18, 1928, in Bottineau to Anthony and Carla (Larson) Apanian. She was raised and educated in Souris, graduating from high school in 1946. While in Souris she worked at the State Bank of Souris and Monkman's Cafe - where she met her husband-to-be Theodore (Ted) Nordby of Landa.
Eloise married Ted on November 14, 1948. They moved to St. Louis, MO for a short time where she worked at Stix, Bauer and Fuller Department Store. In the spring of 1949 they moved to Bottineau where Ted attended Bottineau School of Forestry. After Ted's graduation they moved to Denver, CO where he attended the University of Denver. Upon his graduation in 1952 they moved to Everett, WA where they lived for eleven years. While there, Eloise worked part-time for B&M Retail, and full-time as a mother and house wife. They returned to Minot in 1963 to own and operate the Siesta Motel and farm west of Landa. Ted died on February 20, 2006.
Eloise was a member of First Lutheran Church, VFW Auxiliary, Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge and Association of Business and Professional Women, all in Minot. Eloise enjoyed gardening, helping farm, fishing - especially the annual fishing trip she and Ted took to Jan Lake, Saskatchewan, keeping in touch with family and friends, and most of all the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Eloise's loving family includes her children: Pat (Dwight) Slotto of Minot and Tami Nordby (Mark Johnson) of Las Vegas, Nevada; grandchildren: Brent Slotto (Tina Hallada) of Fargo ND, Alison (Brandyn) Hendrickson of Minot ND, and Alissa (Josh) Smith of Portland OR; great grandchildren: Cody, Derek and Ella; brother: Ronald Apanian of Grand Forks and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Eloise was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sisters: Evelyn Lunde and Adeline Gartner.
Celebration of the Life of Eloise Nordby: Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in First Lutheran Church - Minot.
Interment will be in the Landa Cemetery.
Visitation: Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Memorials are preferred to an organization of the donor's choice.
