Obituary

Ellen Laura Theusch Johnson , 80, Minot, formerly of Roseglen, died Friday, December 4, 2015 in a Minot Assisted Living Center.

Ellen was born March 10, 1935 at Kenmare, North Dakota the daughter of Gerhard and Odilia (Schumacher) Theusch. She was raised and educated at Kenmare, Tolley, Kramer and Glenburn, where she graduated from Glenburn High School in 1952. After graduation, she began work with Northern States Power in Minot as a bookkeeper, where she continued until her marriage to Joseph Johnson on October 31, 1953 at Makoti.

Ellen was active in her community and church at Roseglen, where she and Joe made their home on his father's homestead. They raised their five children there and farmed for more than 45 years. She taught Sunday School for 16 years, serving as Superintendent for 3 of those years. She also served as circle chairperson several years and was chairperson for cooking lutefisk for the annual church supper for many years. They moved into Garrison in 1998 and to Minot in April of 2015. Joseph died April 27, 2015.

Ellen was a charter member of the Roseglen American Legion Auxiliary, serving several years as President and for over 25 years as their Treasurer. She was a former 6th District Vice-President and President. In 1978-79, she served as Department President and the next years on the National VA & R board. For several years, she served on the Selective Services Board #53.

Ellen's loving family includes , son, Greg (Sue) Johnson, Minot and children: Lyndsi (Ty) Engstrom and daughter, Alvi; Chad (Alicia) Johnson and children, Brody and Chloe; & Holly Johnson; daughter, Valerie (Bill) Kirk, Beulah, ND and children, Ryan (Katie), Kelly and Kyle; son, Danny (Donna) Johnson, Ames, IA, and children, Jacob and Laura; son, Dwight (Patty) Johnson, Roseglen and children, Angie, Heather, Megan and Aaron; son, Randy Johnson, Hazen; adopted son, Gary Webb, Philippines, sister, Marjorie (Rod) Caufield, Sun City, AZ; several nieces and nephews.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Joseph, siblings, Agatha Nett, Eileen Nett, Julian Theusch, Selena Wirtz, Marvin Theusch, Luella Alexander and Donald Theusch.

Funeral service : Thursday, December 10, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in St Paul's Lutheran Church, Garrison.
Interment: Thursday at 3:00 p.m. in the ND Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan.
Visitation : Wednesday, December 9, 2015 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the ND Veterans Cemetery, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Roseglen, St Paul's Lutheran Church, Garrison or an organization of the donor's choice.
