Obituary

Ellen Fagerland, 93, Minot and formerly of Crosby and Noonan, died on Sunday, November 3, 2019 at a Minot assisted living facility.  Her loving family was at her side.

Ellen Mae Hassler was born on January 27, 1926 in Noonan, ND to Glen and Mary Ann (Conway) Hassler.  She was raised and educated in Noonan. Ellen married Harris Fagerland on January 21, 1945 in Plentywood, MT.  They made their home in Noonan where she was employed at various times at the cafe, grocery store, and at the local nursing home. They raised 8 children in Noonan.  She loved cheering on her boys in all their sports.  The family moved to Crosby in 1977 where they owned and operated Crosby Hide and Fur from 1974 until they sold the business in 2005.  They moved to Minot in 2005.  After Harris died in February 2012, she lived at Brentmoor assisted living.  Most recently, she resided at The View in Minot.

Ellen had been a member of the Assembly of God Churches in Crosby and Noonan.  She was a vital member of the women's ministries at those churches. She had been a member of the Crosby Senior Citizens and the Noonan P.T.A.   Ellen attended Trinity Evangelical Free Church - Minot.

Ellen was a humble woman who loved God and her family.   She was so happy when any of her family came to visit.   She cared about each one, making each grandchild feel like they were her favorite. She would ask her great and great great grandchildren about their school or about their sports team.   She had a great sense of humor, often laughing at herself.   Her family has many memories of games and laughter at her house.

Ellen shared her gift of hospitality with many people.   She and Harris would often invite others to their home for a game after a meal.  Sometimes Harris would invite someone at the last minute, and she would happily put together a simple meal.  Young people looked forward to going to their home because they knew they would have a lot of fun.

She cared deeply for her many friends.   They knew they could call her when they were going through hard times and she would pray for them.  She kept in contact with many people through email and Facebook.

Ellen read her worn copy of the Bible, with many verses circled or underlined.  Knowing Christ as her Savior, she longed for heaven.  She left a legacy of faith which lives on in her descendants.

Ellen is survived by her children:  Maxine Fagerland (Linda Hamann) Fargo, Karen (Darrell) Losing of Jamestown, Ron (Georgia) Fagerland of Coulterville IL, Dale (Judy) Fagerland of Springfield MO, Jim (Janet) Fagerland of Center, Eileen (Eugene) Berg of Bismarck , Stan Fagerland of Sheridan WY, and Melody (Tom) Baker of Minot; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-five great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings: Edith Miller, Evelyn Hagen, Ed, Eugene and Earl Hassler.
