Obituary

Ella Kalk, 104, Minot, died on Saturday, October 11, 2008 at her foster home.

The daughter of Fred and Christine (Stuber) Putz was raised and educated in Martin, ND. Ella married Gust Kalk on November 24, 1927 at Martin, ND. They moved to Minot and Gust built their home in which she lived until 2007. They adopted their niece, Marlene in 1939 and enjoyed a wonderful family life. Ella started the first Brownie Scout Troop at Washington School. She also organized a Sunday school class for pre-schoolers at First Baptist Church. Children were always the "apple of her eye." She always had baked treats for the school children as well as all the neighborhood children. She was a stay-at-home mother and wife. Fishing was a big part of she and Gust's life. Gust built their cabin at Lake Metigoshe in 1954-1955. They enjoyed many years with family and friends at the cabin. Gardening, baking and music were also a big part of her life. She and Gust traveled the entire USA and were married 67 years and never apart for more than a day or two. Ella has a daughter, five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

Her loving family includes her daughter: Marlene (Ron) Molzahn of Minot, grandchildren: Don (Mary) Breding of California, Kandis (Ravi) Joshi of Minot, Kim (Pat) Ruelle of Kansas, Robb (Pam) Breding of Minnesota, Jason (Annie) Breding of Iowa, great grandchildren: Kayla (Ben) Angerstein of Iowa, Jenna (Brian) Courey of Washington, Aaron Breding of California, Micah, Colt and Steele Ruelle of Kansas, Gunnar Breding of Iowa, and Haley Breding of Minnesota; great great grandchildren: Everett and Ella Angerstein of Iowa and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ella was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters: Mary Eckart, Martha Harr, Lena Eckart, Anna Neubaur, Lydia Putz, Freeda Walker and Edna Garnert and brothers: Otto, Bennie and Ernest Putz.

Funeral Service : Friday, October 17, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. in Immanuel Baptist Church - Minot.
Interment will be in Rosehill Memorial Park - Minot.
Visitation : Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
