Obituary

Elenore O. McKay, 95, longtime Minot resident and former educator, died Friday, January 4, 2013 in a Naperville, Illinois Senior Living Center.

Elenore was born July 14, 1917 in Leeds, ND, the daughter of Oscar and Elenore (Quam) Bue. She was raised in Leeds and graduated from Leeds High School. In 1939 she graduated from North Dakota State University in Fargo with a degree in Education. She taught at schools in Webster and Petersburg and at Leeds High School from 1939-1944.

Elenore was united in marriage to Marshall A. McKay on June 5, 1943 in Leesville, Louisiana while he was serving his country during World War II. Upon completion of the war, they lived in Minneapolis and Fargo for a short time, before moving to Minot in 1958. After completing Elementary Methods at Minot State College, Elenore taught at Bel Air and McKinley Elementary Schools from 1965-1974.

Marshall died December 16, 1989.

Elenore was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church, Minot, where she was active as a Deacon, taught Sunday School classes and was a member of the Ruth Circle group. She also served as a Campfire Girl leader in Fargo and was active on the Minot YWCA Board of Directors and the Patrons of the Minot Public Library Board. She was a member of the Chapter R PEO group and later the Chapter AL PEO group.

Her loving family includes : children, Betty Ruth (Sandy) Turner, Greensboro, NC, Kathleen (Rick) Fonceca, Snohomish, WA and Marshall (Cathy Geers) McKay, Lisle, IL; grandchildren Danielle Fonceca (Jeremy) Fay & Tara Fonceca and Katie & Betsy McKay; sister Ruth Schlieve, Leeds, ND; and she was a devoted aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Elenore was preceded in death by her parents, husband Marshall, brothers Larry Bue and Dr. Ingolf Bue and sister Clarice Stangeland.

Funeral service : Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. in First Presbyterian Church, Minot.
G raveside service: Leeds Lutheran Cemetery, Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
Visitation: Friday, January 11, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Minot Second Story Club, Leeds Lutheran Cemetery, and Minot First Presbyterian Church.
