Eleanor Katherine Officer, 94, Minot, died Friday, November 05, 2010, in a Minot nursing home.

Eleanor was born September 8, 1916, near Raub, ND, to Charles and Ada (Wallace) Weikert. She was raised in that area and completed her education by graduating from Ryder High School in 1933. She continued her education journey at the University of Minnesota, but returned a year later to ND to attend Minot State Teachers College, earning a Standard Teacher's Certificate. She returned to her roots as a teacher in the Raub/Ryder area for the next six years.

Eleanor was united in marriage to Alvin Officer on June 12, 1938 in Raub. They resided on a farm in Loquemont Township, south of Raub until moving to California in 1942, following Alvin's occupation as an electrician. They returned to Ryder, ND in 1948. Eleanor was a mail carrier in the Raub area for the next 13 years until they moved to Minot in 1961. She gained employment at the International Inn as a desk clerk in 1963, working for the next 20 years until her retirement.

She maintained her presence in the Minot and Ryder communities through her retirement years. She was an active member of the Ryder Homemakers Club, the Order of Eastern Star, Floral Rebekah Lodge and Christ Lutheran Church, Minot. Winter months were spent with Alvin in Arizona for a number of years until his death on June 26, 1992.

Eleanor's life enjoyment included reading, sewing, quilting, crafts, knitting, crocheting, and most recently she valued time spent with the ladies from her condo breakfast group, who met at the Rollin Pin. Eleanor will be deeply missed by all who shared in her life.

She is survived by brother-in-law, George (Jeanice) Officer, Minot; nephews, Carroll (Arlene) Drablos, Champaign, IL, Rod (Kathy) Officer, Minot, Dennis (Rhonda) Officer Minot and Michael (Renae) Officer, Minot; niece, Gloria (Russell) Emerson, Fargo, ND; numerous great- nieces and great-nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews and close friend, Gloria (Gary) Lenton, Norwich, ND.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Alvin and half-sister, Mary Drablos.

Funeral service: 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 9, 2010, at Christ Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.
Visitation: Monday, November 8, 2010, from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Christ Lutheran Church, Minot.
