Obituary

Eleanor Marian Berg, 102, Minot, died Tuesday, August 23, 2011 in the Ringuette Adult Foster Care Home in Minot.

Eleanor was born March 20, 1909 at the home of her grandparents near Hickson, North Dakota, to John and Gustine (Jacobson) Stensrud. The family moved to Scotsgard, Saskatchewan, Canada when she was three-months old, where they homesteaded. They returned to Hickson after the outbreak of the 1918 Flu epidemic to assist with the operation of the family's farming operations there.

During her younger years, Eleanor worked various jobs to assist the family with expenses. Some of these included cooking and doing housekeeping for various families in Valley City. She was united in marriage to Melvin O. Berg on August 29, 1937 at her parents' home in Bertha, MN. She and Melvin made their home at Valley City, where their three daughters were born. They moved to Glasgow, MT for a short time, before moving to Minot in 1951.

Eleanor and Melvin raised their three daughters locally, while Melvin was employed with Harrington Brothers Livestock Company as a cattle buyer. They moved into the Milton Young Towers in 1972, and Melvin died April 16, 1982. She continued to live at the Towers, until moving into the Unsong RInguette Adult Foster Care home in 2003.

Eleanor was a longtime member of Bethany Lutheran Church, where she was active in the Church's sewing group. She enjoyed sewing and knitting in her spare time.

Her loving family includes : daughter, Barbara (Duane) Aase, Minot; grandchildren, Steve (Diane) Aase, Medford, OR, Laurie (Brian) Rook, Fargo, ND, Sherie (Keith) Reimche, Burlington, ND, Raymond Cswerko, Wendy (Bob) Paciotti, all of Connecticut and Cindy Cswerko of Florida; great-grandchildren, Gavin Rook, Harleigh Reimche, Tyler Reimche, Raymond William Cswerko, William George Cswerko, and Jacob Paciotti; several nieces and nephews.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughters, Bonnie Cswerko and Betty Lochtowe, sons-in-law: Leon Lochtowe and Ray Cswerko; and her grandchildren, Ricky and Kimberly Lochtowe; along with four brothers.

Funeral service: Monday, August 29, 2011 at 1:30pm in Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot.

Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.

Visitation: Sunday from Noon-5:00p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.

Memorials are preferred to Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot.
