Eileen Gladys Hance, 84, Minot, died Wednesday, November 1, 2017 in a Minot Nursing Home.
Eileen was born May 2, 1933 at Upham, North Dakota, the daughter of Walter and Anna (Flath) Torno. She was raised and educated at Upham and graduated from Upham High School in 1951. She attended Minot State College, where she received her teaching certificate. She taught at a rural Towner School for one year, prior to her marriage to Glenn Hance on December 21, 1952 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Upham.
They made their home at Wolseth, where they owned and operated the Wolseth Cash Store, and she worked as a postal clerk for several years, until the Post Office closed. They moved to a farm in Margaret Township of Ward County, where they raised their children and farmed small grains. They retired in 1989 and moved to Minot in September 1990.
Eileen was a member of St Mark's Lutheran Church in Minot. She was a former member of St Paul's Lutheran Church, Minot, where she held various positions and sang in the choir. She served as Treasurer of Margaret Township and taught Sunday School and children's choir at Lynch Immanuel Church. She did volunteer work at Somerset Court, the airport, and at the Norsk Hostfest. She was active in the quilting groups at St Paul's and St Mark's Lutheran Church. She enjoyed sewing, bowling, gardening, playing the piano and organ, along with traveling with Glenn.
Eileen's loving family includes , husband of 64 years, Glenn; children, Darlene (Denver) Culpepper, Sheridan, AR; Diane (Guy) Stavnes, Helena, MT; David (Joan) Hance, Minot; Debra (Walt) Runyan, Oklahoma City, OK; grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Michelle (Jay) Harriman and their children Elizabeth and Alicia, Atlanta, GA, Ericka (Robbie) Hendricks and their children Sam Boyd, Cammie Taylor, and Jacob Jordan, Sheridan, AR, Ryan Stavnes, Helena, MT, Kimberly (Bob) Lawton and their children Violet and Brenna, Woodbridge, VA, Kelsey (John) Tooley, Helena, MT, Danielle Hance, Minneapolis, MN, Nathan Hance, St. Paul, MN, Tristan Hance, Ft. Campbell, KY, Michael Runyan and Chris Runyan, Edmond , OK, Larissa Runyan, Norman, OK, Cammie Taylor, Tumbling Shoals, AR, Kyle Runyan, Oklahoma City, OK; brother, Delbert Torno, Las Vegas, NV; sister, Marlys (Ruben) Bauer, Beaverton, OR and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Eileen was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Anna Torno, and sisters, Betty Schweyen and Lillian Torgerson.
Funeral service: Monday, November 6, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in St Mark's Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment:
Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation:
Sunday from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
