Obituary

The graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.

Edythe Knodel, 86, Velva, formerly of Butte, ND, died Sunday, March 31, 2019 in Souris Valley Care Center, Velva.

Edythe was born March 22, 1933 at Bottineau, North Dakota the daughter of Lloyd and Alice (Thomas) Ewers. She was raised and educated near Lansford until the family moved to Minnesota. The family traveled throughout the U.S. after her mother died and lived in Washington, Oregon and California. She graduated from Lansford High School in 1951 and was employed for a time with JC Penney in various positions.

Edythe was united in marriage to Lloyd Knodel on November 7, 1954 at Minot. They made their home for a time in Georgia, while Lloyd was stationed there with the military. They returned to North Dakota and lived on a farm in Strasburg Township of Sheridan County near Butte, ND where they raised their two children.

Edythe had earned a degree in Early Childhood Development at Mayville State University and taught in the Head Start program for over 20 years at Drake. She retired in 2001. Lloyd died April 8, 2018.

Edythe was a longtime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Butte, the American Legion Auxiliary, Butte PTA, Sharing Gain Homemaker's Club and Butte Senior Citizens Center, where she held various positions throughout the years.

Edythe's hobbies and interests included gardening, knitting, quilting, canning, sewing, reading, doing crossword puzzles and adult coloring.

Edythe's loving family includes: her children, Michael Knodel, Butte, ND and Shelley Selzler, Lincoln, ND; 4 grandchildren to include: Jordan Selzler, Kyle & Kristen Clayton and Mindy Christensen; 10 great grandchildren: Kadin, Aubrie and Ashton Selzler; Colten Lloyd, Taelynn and Averie Clayton; Endrew and Destyn Scheid; TJ Brandvold & Kinsley Olson; siblings, William Ewers, Sun City, AZ, Duane (Judy) Ewers, Nashville, TN and Phyllis (Dick) Petz, Tucson, AZ; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Edythe was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 64 years, Lloyd; brothers, Donald and sister, Ellen.

Celebration of Life service: Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in St Paul's Lutheran Church, Butte, ND.
Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at 1:00 p.m.
Visitation: At her request there will not be a viewing, however friends may sign a memorial register book on Friday, April 5th from 4:00-6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot. Memorials are preferred to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Butte.
