Edward Dobrinski, 92, Minot and long-time Makoti area resident, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, at a Minot nursing home.
Edward was born April 29, 1919, to Max and Pearl (Headley) Dobrinski, seven miles southwest of Makoti. He attended grade school in a rural Hiddenwood Township school and graduated from Makoti High School in 1936. Ed furthered his education at Minot Normal School (now Minot State University) in the business field. He met Tillie Hammer while in college, and they were married in Ambrose on June 8, 1941. Ed often said that she was the best thing he ever got out of college.
Ed and Tillie farmed for over 60 years southwest of Makoti. He also operated an aerial crop spraying business for many years. He was an avid collector of antique farm machinery and was a charter member of the Makoti Threshing Association.
Ed was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural Makoti, and was an active member, serving on the church council. He was also very involved with his children's activities, including 4-H and sports, and also followed his grandchildren's sporting events in later years. Ed was also involved in many other community events, and served many years on the Board of Directors for Reservation Telephone Company.
Ed and Tillie started spending some of the winter months in Arizona during the late 1960s. They bought a condo in Minot in 2001 and spent the winters there, later moving in full time. They moved into Edgewood Vista in Minot in 2008 and to Manor Care in 2011. Ed and Tillie celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in June 2011.
Survivors include his bride of 70 years, Tillie, and their three childrenPhyllis (Hilman) Anderson, Everett (Peggy) Dobrinski, Makoti, and Cheryl (Arnie) Stein, rural Surrey; grandchildrenMelissa (Dave Money) Anderson, Darla (Jason) Churness, Michael (Suzi) Stein, Darren (Carisa) Dobrinski, David (Jamie) Anderson, Jennifer (Guy Hanley) Stein and Kristi (Mark) Schaefer; great-grandchildrenZachary and Emily Churness; Britton (Brandon) Bissette, Brenna and Devin Stein; Isabella Dobrinski; Samantha and Emily Anderson; and Emma, Jack, Oliver and Henry Schaefer; great-great-grandchildren- Laila Stein and Roman Bissette.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson Jesse Stein.
Funeral: Thursday, January 19, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. p.m. in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural Makoti.
Burial: St. Paul's Cemetery, rural Makoti.
Visitation: Wednesday from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
