Edna Marie Tofstad, 90, Minot formerly of Gasman Township of Ward County, died on Monday, March 12, 2007 in a Minot nursing home.

Edna was born on September 30, 1916 in Newman Township of Ward County near Sawyer, North Dakota, to Herman and Minnie (Seney) Newman. She was raised on the family farm and attended rural schools in that area. As a young adult she was employed by the Bivins family as a caregiver for their children as well as cooking and cleaning. She moved to Minot and was employed at Trinity Hospital prior to her marriage to Theodore Tofstad on September 30, 1937 in Minot. They made their home on a farm in Gasman Township of Ward County north of Max, ND. Ted died on January 7, 1994. Edna moved to the Dakota Terrace apartment complex in 1995, Edgewood Vista in 2002 and Trinity Nursing Home in 2005.

Edna was a member of the Gasman Homemakers, served as a 4H leader and especially enjoyed sewing, cooking and gardening.

Her loving family includes: Children: LaVern (Anna) Tofstad of Pahrump, NV, LaVonne (Dennis) Hensen of Glenburn, Vera (Terrance) Woelber of Bismarck, Carol (Chuck) Strain of Henderson, NV, Jean (Glen) Dunkel and Julie (Terry) Markle both of Minot; Nineteen Grandchildren: Lyle, Lonnie, Leslie, Larry and Lynae Tofstad; Lori Rominski, Lynette Espeseth, Leann Nichols, Bradley Woods, Melanie Jones, Glen Jr., Roger and Michael Dunkel; Bobbi Jo Arneson, Sheri Hardy, Tricia and Joshua Woelber, Jon and Steven Markle; Numerous Great Grandchildren and Great Great Grandchildren; Brother: Raymond Newman of Minot, Sisters-in-law: Mildred Newman of Minot, Blanche Newman of Larimore, ND, Thelma Serdahl and Joan Tofstad; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother, Mabel Fulmer Newman, husband, son, Ronald, an infant son, sister: Evelyn Fjeld and brothers: Howard, Walter, Ralph and Gerald, step-sisters, Dorothy Hage and Ardis Lesteberg, step-brother, Ottis Fulmer.

Funeral Service: Saturday, March 17, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in the new Zion Lutheran Church - Minot (1800 Hiawatha Street).
Interment will be in Rosehill Memorial Park - Minot.
