Edna B. Simbalenko , 92, Minot and formerly of Kief, peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, May 25, 2009.
Edna was born on October 2, 1916 in Kief, ND to George and Lena (Federenko) Michalenko. She was reared on the family farm in Land Township of McHenry County near Kief and graduated from Kief High School in 1935.
Edna married Levi Simbalenko on July 18, 1937 in Kief. They made their home in Kief, where they owned and operated Lee's Super Service as well as farmed. The family moved to Minot in 1956, but maintained their farming interests near Kief. Levi died on October 22, 2003.
Edna was currently a member of First Baptist Church - Minot where she was a member of the ladies organization and XYZ. She was a former member of the Kief Mennonite Brethren Church. Edna sang in a mixed quartette which provided music for many years in Kief and the surrounding area. She enjoyed spending time with her children and was a model grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a superb cook and used her exceptional gift of hospitality for hosting dinners and lunches in her home.
Edna's loving family includes her children: Levi (Eunice) Simbalenko, Jr. of Minot, Florine (Cleon) Engel of Woodbury, MN, Mary Lou (Ronald) Huschen of Glendale, AZ; grandchildren: Jodene (Joe) Robbins, Jeffrey Simbalenko, Wendi (Lyle) Bertelsen, Jason (Joy) Engel, Brent Huschen, Kristin Huschen; great grandchildren: Tiffany (Jason) Smith, Christopher (Emily) Vigness, Molly, Grant and Mara Engel, Cole and Alaina Bertelson; great great-grandchildren: Rebekah and Caleb Smith; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband, sisters: Elsie, Emma, and Alma; and brothers: George and Wilbert.
Funeral Service:
Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in First Baptist Church - Minot.
Interment
: Rosehill Memorial Park - Minot.
Visitation
: Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
