Obituary

Edna Ottmar, 93, Minot formerly of Bismarck and Mott, died Monday, December 31, 2018 at Souris Valley Care Center in Velva, ND.

Edna Johannah Elizabeth Ottmar was born June 19, 1925, in Mott, ND to Fred and Annette (Weidenbach) Martin. She grew up on her parents' farm and ranch in Castle Rock Township of Hettinger County near Mott. The oldest of three children, she received her elementary and secondary education in the Mott Public School System.  She attended college in Dickinson, ND and taught in Hettinger County rural schools for a short time. Prior to her marriage, she also worked for Bell Telephone Company in Bismarck, ND.

Edna was united in marriage to Albert 'Al' Ottmar on June 18, 1950 in Mott. They established their home in Mott, where he was owner and operator of Ottmar's Painting.  They were members of Zoar Congregational Church and were also active in community and civic affairs.

In 1969, they moved to Bismarck. Edna was employed as a dietary aide for Med Center One and the Baptist Nursing Home for many years. They were active members of Evangelical Temple Assembly of God.  Edna was also involved with Prime Timers, Joy Fellowship, MOPS, Women's Aglow, Christian Women's Club and XYZ while living in Bismarck.

In June 1997, they moved to Minot to be near their son and daughter-in-law. Albert passed away on October 26, 1998. Edna was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She was a member of First Assembly of God Church.  She was also a foster grandparent in the Minot Elementary School System for fifteen years.

Grateful for having shared in Edna's life were her sons, Percy (Caroline) Ottmar, Minot, Perry (Debbie) Ottmar, Rochester, MN; daughter, Paulette (Howard) Thorson, Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Jason (Shannon) Ottmar, Aaron (Shantel) Ottmar, Amy (Scott) McDonough and Karley Thorson; seven great grandchildren; sister, June Lowden, Fargo, ND; brother, Robert Martin, Mott; sister-in-law, Bette Ottmar of Oklahoma along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert; brothers-in-law, Jake, John, William and Ben Ottmar; Forest Lowden, Herman Reich and Herbert Gunsch; sisters-in-law, Martha, Emma and Ella Ottmar, Martha Reich, Clara Gunsch and Margie Martin.

Memorials are preferred to the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
