Obituary

Edna Fegley, 93, Minot, formerly of Berthold, died Monday, May 9, 2016 in a Minot Assisted Living Center.

Edna was born July 9, 1922 at Minot, North Dakota the daughter of Jay and Gena (Liefson) Butterfield. She was raised on a farm in Mandan Township of Ward County, south of Berthold and educated at a country school.

Edna was united in marriage to Virgil Fegley on June 14, 1945 at Minot. They made their home on the Fegley homestead east of Berthold, where they raised their six children and farmed throughout the years. She and Virgil won the ND Soil Conservation Contest for the Midland District in 1957. Edna and Virgil moved into Berthold in 1987. Virgil passed away in 1988. Edna continued to live in Berthold until she moved into the Brookdale/Brentmoor Assisted Living Center three years ago.

Edna was a longtime member of the Berthold Baptist Church, where she was active with the Women's Mission Circle. She loved supplying flowers and participating in the Sunday School and Bible school activities. Edna enjoyed serving as a 4-H leader for many years and actively involved in a quilting group of Berthold's three churches where they made quilts for every high school graduate.

Edna has always loved working with plants and gardening. She enjoyed giving tips and sharing her plants with others. She grew huge gardens of vegetables and flowers. Edna's ability to keep pests like rabbits, gophers and moles away became legendary with her trapping and shooting skills. Gardening was passed down to her grandchildren and she spent many hours working with them cultivating a love for gardens of beautiful plants. Her grandchildren were her joy; she would have new games to teach them. It wasn't unusual to see her and her grandchildren playing softball. Because her mother died when she was 10, Edna learned to do many things on the farm that sustained her throughout her years. The need to cook and bake was necessary for a family of eight, hosting nieces, nephews, planting, and harvest crews.

Edna's loving family includes, children Jay (Virginia) Fegley, Muscatine, IA, Warren (Jennifer) Fegley, Eagle-Boise, ID, Susan (Lowell-Taylor) Larsen, Greg Fegley, & Drew Fegley, all of Berthold; 8 grandchildren to include: Michelle(Fegley), Tiffaney, Tyler, &Tate Fegley, Sandra Berndardt, Alejandra Larsen, Rubiela Larsen, and Alison Kuhn; 5 great grandchildren to include: Courtney, Jonathan, and Elizabeth Bernhardt, Payton Berg, Alex Schendel, Zade Larsen and EmmyLou Kuhn; twin-sister, Edith Haman, Minot and several nieces and nephews.
