Obituary

Edith Alice Smith, 100, Minot, formerly of the Flaxton area, died Sunday, October 23, 2016 in a Minot Nursing Home.

Edith was born August 28, 1916 on the family farm in Carter Township of Burke County, North Dakota, the daughter of Nels and Anna (Bang) Nelson. She was raised and educated near Bowbells and united in marriage to Albert R. Smith October 9, 1940 at Flaxton.

They made their home on a farmstead north of Flaxton, where they raised small grains, cattle and sheep. They also owned a home in Flaxton. They moved to Minot in 2000. Albert died November 29, 2010. Edith moved to the Brentmoor Assisted Living Center in 2014 and most recently Trinity Homes.

Edith was a former member of First Lutheran Church in Flaxton, where she was active with the Ladies Circle group and a local homemakers club. She enjoyed gardening, tending to her house plants along with cooking and baking.

Her loving family includes , sons, Gordon (Doris) Smith, Springfield, Missouri and Elwood (Susan) Smith, Minot; grandchildren, Mike (Barbara) Smith, Wahpeton and Brian (Vanessa) Smith, Wichita, KS; great grandchildren to include, Samantha, Dylan, Emma, Anikah, Sebastian & Kennedy, along with several nieces and nephews.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 70 years, Albert, son, Floyd, twin sister, Agnes and twin brother and sister, Sigrid and Dan, and sisters, Carrie and Tillie.

Funeral service: Thursday, October 27, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in Trinity Homes Chapel of Trinity Nursing Home.
Graveside service: Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in the Flaxton Cemetery, Flaxton, ND
Visitation: Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the Minot Commission on Aging.
