Obituary

Edith Haarstad, 97, Minot, formerly of Noonan, passed into eternal life Friday, June 17, 2016 in her home.

Edith Christine Haarstad was born on January 13, 1919 in Comertown, MT to Oscar and Anne (Jenson) Fransen. She was raised and educated in Montana, graduating from Comertown High School in 1937.

After high school, Edith attended two years of business college in Minneapolis, MN. Once out of college, she was employed in a munitions factory in New Brighton, MN during World War II. She was also a nanny during this time. For a short time, she worked in Portland, OR before returning home to help take care of her father.

Edith married Kalmer Haarstad on March 20, 1950 at her family farm near Westby. They made their home together in Noonan until Kalmer passed away in 1969. While there, she was the auditor and tax preparer for the city. She was also treasurer at Noonan Assembly of God Church and worked at Baukol-Noonan Inc. from 1969 to 1986. Edith continued to live in Noonan until 1993, when she moved to Minot.

Edith was a member and Sunday school teacher at the Noonan Assembly of God and attended First Assembly of God while in Minot. She was a Cub Scout and 4-H leader and volunteered with RSVP/GreenThumb. Along with her involvement in her communities, she enjoyed crocheting and knitting, reading, baking, and canning.

Edith's loving family includes children, Ken (Cathy) Haarstad, Minot, Elaine (Paul) Carlson, Maxbass, Julie (Bryan) Podruchny, and Vanda (Rich) Campbell, Minot; grandchildren, Monica (John Richard) Young, Sara Haarstad, Shar and Andrew Carlson, Michael (Jessica), Matthew, and Melissa Podruchny, Michelle (Jesse) Schuer, and Christina (Lane) Sunwall; great-grandchildren, Tait and Zoe Podruchny, Hannah, Benson, and Even Sunwall, and many nieces and nephews.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kalmer; brothers, Johnny and Edwin (Dorothy) Fransen; and sister, Esther (Bjorn) Bjornsen.

Funeral service : Thursday, June 23, 2016 at 11am, First Assembly of God Church, Minot.
Interment : Thursday, June 23, 2016 at 3:30pm, Assembly of God Cemetery, Noonan.
Visitation : Wednesday, June 22, 2016 from 3:00-6:00pm at Thomas Family Funeral Home.
