Edith Colton, 77, 819 3rd Street SE, Minot, died Friday, March 2, 2007 in a Minot hospital.
Edith Colton was born September 22, 1929, in Minot, ND, the daughter of John and Marguerite (Young) Colton. She was raised and educated in Minot, where she graduated from Minot High School in 1947. She graduated from Minot Teacher's College in 1951 and completed her education with a Master's Degree in Music from Westminster in Princeton, NJ.
Following her education, she toured extensively throughout the Middle East and Asia. She returned to the US and was employed by Rockefeller Brothers Theological Fellowship Program for five years. Edith moved to California, where she was employed at the University of California at Berkley as an administrative assistant for a year. She moved back to Princeton, NJ and was employed at Westminster for one year at the university, also serving as an administrative assistant.
In the mid 1970's Edith returned to Minot to assist in care to her elderly parents and has continued to live in Minot. She taught at Bottineau High School for several years.
Edith was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, Minot and PEO Chapter G. She served as an elder and sang in the church choir at First Presbyterian Church, Minot. She was a past member of the AAUW, Minot Chamber Chorale, and symphonies in Minot and Princeton, NJ.
Edith enjoyed singing and playing the piano as well as her violin. She loved animals, enjoyed listening to Prairie Public Radio, and visiting with friends.
Surviving family includes: Sister-in-Law: Claire Colton.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Richard and Herbert "Allen" Colton.
Memorial service:
Monday, March 5, 2007 at 1:30pm at the All Saints Episcopal Church of Minot.
Interment:
Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND, later in the spring.
Visitation:
At her request, there will be no reviewal however friends may sign a memorial
register
book on
Sunday, March 4, 2007, from noon - 5:00 pm at the Thomas Family Funeral Home of Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Prairie Public Radio, Souris Valley Humane Society, and All Saints Episcopal Church.
