Obituary

Edgar H. Miller, 90, longtime Kenmare jeweler and aerial crop sprayer, died Saturday, August 21, 2010, in a Minot hospital.

Edgar was born December 15, 1919, in Langdon, ND, the son of R.O. and Carrie A. (Southard) Miller. He was raised and educated in Langdon through middle school, later graduating from Cooperstown High School in 1937.

He continued his education at Valley City State College in 1940 until World War II changed his life course by his enlistment into the US Army Air Corps. Edgar was united in marriage to Joyce Aloha on August 23, 1942 in Dan Angelo, TX. They made their home in Texas, while Edgar served his country as a pilot and pilot instructor for almost four years until his honorable discharge, attaining the rank of Captain, on November 25, 1945.

They returned to North Dakota in 1949 and made their home in Kenmare, ND. Edgar spent his professional years as owner and operator of Miller's Jewelry for forty-five years and an aerial crop sprayer for thirty years in Kenmare and the surrounding area.

Edgar and Joyce's life enjoyments included fishing and traveling to destinations that included Mexico, Alaska and the Bahamas. Joyce passed away on November 17, 1992.

Edgar "Itchy" was never one to complain. He hummed and whistled continually as he worked and played. Edgar was a true animal lover and was seldom found without a dog by his side. He will be remembered for his selflessness, generosity and sense of humor.

He is survived by daughters, Cynthia (Donald) Bowen, Brunswick, OH, Judith Hansen, Donnybrook, ND and Linda Engelhard, Burlington, ND; grandchildren, Julie Glass, Jeff Hansen, Catherine Bowen and Marlena Bowen; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Nathan and Kyle Glass and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Edgar was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Joyce, grandson, Eric Engelhard, sister, Evelyn Butters, brothers, Robert E. Miller, Howard L. Miller and Walter H. Miller.

A service of remembrance will be held at a later date.
