Obituary

E. Michael Timm , 81, former longtime ND Legislator and Minot Businessman, died Friday, August 17, 2018 in a Minot Hospital.

Mike was born May 20, 1937 at Minot, North Dakota, the son of Arthur and Flossie (Tesarik) Timm. He was raised and educated in Minot, graduating from Minot High School in 1955. He then enlisted with the U.S. Marine Corps in August of 1956 and honorably served his country for two years.

After receiving his honorable discharge in August of 1958, Mike returned to North Dakota and attended Minot State College and Minot Business College. He was united in marriage to Sonja Froseth on June 6, 1959 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Minot. They made their home in Minot, where he assisted his father with the operation of Timm Moving and Storage until his father's death. He then took over the company as owner and operator from 1959, until he retired and sold the business in 2000.

Mike honorably served North Dakota in the State Legislature in the House of Representatives for 32 years. He was active in a number of capacities, some of which included: Speaker of the House in 1997, Vice-chair of the Appropriations Committee, vice-chair and chairman of the Transportation Committee, and chairman of the Tax and Finance Committee. He also served the Minot Business community on the Board of Directors for First Bank, Trustee for the ND Viking Fund, member and past President of the Minot Jaycees and Board member of the Minot Development Association. He was also a member and past President of the Motor Carrier Association, member of the Minot Country Club, Minot Softball Association, Minot Elks, Eagles Aerie, Moose Lodge and Lions Club, where he served the club as President.

After his retirement, Mike enjoyed spending time with family, grandchildren and friends at their summer home on Lake Metigoshe. His hobbies and interests included: golfing, hunting, bowling, snowmobiling, along with attending his grandchildren's activities.

His loving family includes , wife of 59 years, Sonja Timm; children, Lisa (Waid) Wrege, Boynton Beach, FL, Mark (Betsy) Timm, Germantown, WI, Tonia (Todd) Manion, Easton, PA, Tasha (Les) Simons, Minot; 12 grandchildren to include: Michael, Catherine & Nicole Timm; Aiden & Riley Manion; Taylor, Grace, Abby, Patrick, Ryen, Kasey & Shayne Simons; brother, Arthur (Nancy) Timm, Anchorage, AK; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Travis Eldridge O'Connor; brother, Gerald Timm and a sister, Pat McCune.

Celebration of Life service : Friday, August 24, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in First Assembly of God Church, Minot.
Interment : Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Thursday, August 23, 2018 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
In lieu of flowers or plants, the family prefers memorials to St Jude's Children's Hospital, Metigoshe Ministries, Minot VFW Post, Minot Youth For Christ or an organization of the donor's choice.
