E. Mildred Nesdahl , 90, Minot, died Wednesday, June 22, 2011, in a Grand Forks nursing home while evacuated from Trinity Homes in Minot due to flooding of the Mouse River.

E. Mildred Nesdahl was born September 8, 1920, on the family farm NW of Towner the only daughter of Amund and Mina (Hougom) Jorde. She grew up on the family farm and was raised and educated in Hougom Township and assisted her family with duties of the farm throughout her childhood. She attended school at Mouse River School No.1 until a new school was built just north of that one and received her education through the 8th grade, walking 1 mile morning and afternoon. As a young adult, Mildred was employed by various Minot families as a housekeeper.

Mildred was united in marriage to Orvin S. Nesdahl on July 5, 1941 in Sidney, MT. They were married 52 years before he passed away on March 18, 1994. During their life together they lived on a farm located north of Minot where the Minot AFB is currently located for a year until settling to Minot in 1942. She was employed as an office cleaner for several years while also working at I. Keatings and JC Penney Co. as drapery maker before retiring in 1969. They raised four sons.

Mildred remained active in the community with memberships to the American Legion Auxiliary, Moose Lodge, Eagles Aerie, and AARP and also frequently attended Senior Citizen Center activities. She attended Zion Lutheran Church for a number of years.

Diminishing eyesight in recent years made it difficult for her to enjoy her hobbies including gardening, crocheting and sewing. She especially prided herself on the vast array of potatoes she grew in her garden, including red, yellow, white and even blue. She always kept seed potatoes from her crop to plant the following year.

She will be greatly missed by all who shared in her life.

Her loving family includes: children, Orville (Lynda) Nesdahl, Rice Lake, ND, Myron (Connie) Nesdahl, Monticello, MN Milton (Louise) Nesdahl, West St. Paul, MN and Dale (Renay) Nesdahl, rural Minot, ND; grandchildren, Lana (Kelly) Sem, Minot, ND Brett Nesdahl, Minot ND, Wendy Nesdahl, Brainerd MN, Kevin (Amy) Nesdahl Blaine MN, Cheri (Jeff) Grunewald, Big Lake, MN, Jacob (Sarah) Nesdahl Cottage Grove, MN and Anna (James) Brennan, Cottage Grove, MN. Great-grandchildren; Katelynn Weiss, Kristi Weiss, Nathan Tahtinen, Evan Johnson, Samuel Nesdahl, Jackson Nesdahl, Autumn Grunewald, Amber Grunewald, Daniel Nesdahl, Vincent Nesdahl, John Nesdahl and Anthony Brennan; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Henry.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2011, in Zion Lutheran Church, Minot.
Visitation will be held prior to the funeral service on Wednesday at the church.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot at a later date.
