Duane Harold Hill, 80, Minot, formerly of rural Douglas died in his home on Tuesday, October 14, 2008 surrounded by his loving family.
Duane was born on September 15, 1928 in Minot to Harold and Gunhild (Haugom) Hill. He grew up on the family farm, attended rural schools and graduated from Minot High School in 1946. As a young adult he assisted his father with the operation of the family farm, was employed at Harrington Brothers Livestock Auction for sixteen years and continued farming until his retirement in 2000. Duane married Olive Larson on October 29, 1950 at Saron Lutheran Church-rural Minot. They made their home on the family farm in Hilton Township of Ward County near Douglas. Duane and Olive moved to Minot in 2003.
Duane was a former member of Spring Lake Lutheran Church, rural Douglas , where he served on the church council and was a trustee. He was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church-Douglas, and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church-Minot, at the time of his death. Duane was a member and chairman of the Hilton Township School Board. He served on the Board of Directors of the Max Fire District and was a member of the Eagles Club, Moose Lodge and Sons of Norway. He enjoyed woodworking, collecting antique clocks, John Deere memorabilia, and belt buckles.
Duane's family includes his loving wife of 58 years, Olive; children: Bonnie (Bob) Berntson of Minot, Becky (Ray) Hoverson of Harrisburg, SD, Brenda (Craig) Marschall of Windom, MN and Brandon (Robbin) Hill of Goldsboro, NC. Grandchildren: Teresa (Rich) Hynson, Minot, Laura (Brad) Jacobson, Farmington, MN, Cameron (Laurie) Hoverson, Corey (Terra) Hoverson, Harrisburg, SD, Keely Broach, Madison, GA, Katie Broach, Goldsboro, NC. Great-grandchildren: Ashley, Mikhaila, Olivia, and Nicholas Hynson, Minot, Owen Jacobson, Farmington, MN, Alexis, Gabriel and Kylie Hoverson, Harrisburg, SD, and Peyton Bowen, Madison, GA. His sister Avis Mathis, and brother, Curtis (Marlene) Hill both of Minot, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, sister Doris Bunas, brothers-in-law Jake Mathis and Gordon Bunas, nephew Randy Mathis and niece Wendy Bunas.
Funeral service:
Saturday, October 18 at 10:30 am in Zion Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment
will be in Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation:
Friday, October 17, from 2-7 at Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
