Obituary

Duane Carroll Aga, 88, Minot, died on Friday, February 7, 2014 in Minot.

Duane was born on February 5 , 1926 near Sherwood, ND to Bernt and Clara (Anderson) Aga. He was reared on a farm in Prosperity Township of Renville County and attended rural schools prior to graduating from Sherwood High School. Duane was drafted into the U.S. Army Air Corps in February of 1943 and served his country until his honorable discharge in May of 1945. He continued his education at Minot State Teachers College prior to receiving his bachelor's degree from the University of Denver in 1951.

Duane married Betty Lowe on June 4, 1948 in Minot. Following the completion of college education in Denver they made their home in Minot from 1952 until the present. He was employed by Westland Oil Company for eight years and Saunder's Drug Company before beginning his career as an insurance agent with Allstate Insurance Company. He served the community in that capacity from 1960 until his retirement in 1989.

Duane\'s passions in life included hunting, fishing, traveling and reading but he he especially enjoyed trapshooting. In 1999, he was the National Senior Vet Champion in the 16 yard event at the Satellite American Grand Trapshoot in Arizona. He was inducted into the North Dakota Trapshooting Hall of Fame in 2001.

Duane was a member of Vincent United Methodist Church, American Legion, Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, Eagles Aerie, Minot Gun Club and Jaycees.

Duane's loving family includes his wife of 65 years Betty; children: Alan (Beth) Aga and Carol Jean (Greg) Mathwich all of Minot and Roger Aga of Post Falls ID; five grandchildren: Tiffany (Gerardo) Ascencio, Matt (Leslie) Aga, Joe (Desiree) Aga, Tyler (Steffani) Mathwich and Leisa Mathwich; twelve great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Vonda Smith and Peggy Bodfield, brothers: Wayne and Bryce Aga.

Celebration of the Life of Duane Aga: Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at 11:00am in Vincent United Methodist Church - Minot.
Interment will be in Rosehill Memorial Park - Minot.
Visitation: Monday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Vincent United Methodist Church .
