Douglas Kirk, 71, Minot, died Sunday, January 1, 2012 in a Minot nursing home.
Douglas was born on August 15, 1940, in Zap, ND to Dudney and Ella (Kaufmann) Kirk. He attended grade school in Bismarck and later Minot High School, where he enjoyed sports during his youth.
Doug entered active duty into the US Army National Guard on April 6, 1961 during the Berlin Crisis serving honorably until his discharge from active service August 9, 1962 when he was transferred to reserve service for the National Guard for a number of years.
Doug was once married to Judy Emerson. This union was blessed with a son, Chuck and a daughter, Kerrie. He gained employment for the City of Minot with most of his time being spent as an operator of the water treatment plant for 36 years until his retirement in 2000.
Doug married Phyllis (Schaan) Bock on January 25, 1994 at St. Thomas Aquinas Cathedral in Reno, NV. They continued to make Minot their home. Through the years, he carried memberships to the American Legion, VFW, Moose Lodge and Elk's Lodge, all of Minot. Doug found enjoyment in fishing and camping in his younger years and enjoyment of family later in life.
His loving family includes wife, Phyllis Bock, Minot; children, Kerrie (Darryle) Jones, Belgium and Chuck Kirk, Minot, ND; grandchildren, Jaxon and Kaitlyn Jones; sister, Shirley (Doug) Witikko, Minot; brother, Rodney Kirk, Saltillo, MS; half-brothers, Greg Taylor, Minot and Kevin (Cori) Kaufmann, Devils Lake, ND; step-children, Carrie (Doug) Peterson, Murray (Jodi) Bock, Patrice (Mike) Erdle; Marilyn (John) Dorscher and Brenda (Marty) Heller; Thirteen Step-Grandchildren; Seven Step-Great-Grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Douglas was preceded in death by his parents and a step-grandchild, Carter Erdle.
Liturgy of the Word Service
: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2012 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot.
Interment:
Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation:
Friday, January 6, 2012, from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials
are preferred to Trinity Hospice of Minot.
