Douglas Duane Brevig, 71, Sawyer, died Tuesday, September 17, 2013 in a Minot Hospital.
Doug was born March 3, 1942 at Minot, North Dakota the son of Harry and Erna (Sayler) Brevig. He was baptized at St. Olaf Church, rural turtle Lake and confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church, Rural Sawyer.
He was raised and educated at Sawyer and graduated from Sawyer High School in 1961. He had joined the North Dakota National Guard in 1960, during that time he served 13 months active duty during the Berlin Crisis of 1961. He was honorably discharged in 1966 with the rank of staff Sgt.
Doug married his High school sweetheart and love of his life, Judy Russ on September 22, 1962 at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Sawyer. They lived in Sawyer, where together they raised 3 children, Todd, Darin and Paula. Doug was employed as a grain inspector with Minot Grain Inspection for a number of years. In 1988, he went to work with SunMart Grocery Store as a meat cutter working in that capacity until 2002. He drove school bus for Nedrose School for five years, and most recently had gone back to Marketplace Foods working part time in their meat department. His wife, Judy died October 16, 1997.
Doug loved hunting, fishing and camping. He enjoyed watching western movies on the television and spending time with his family and friends. He was very proud of his grandchildren. He was well known by his peers for his deer sausage.
His loving family includes , children, Paula (Jerry) Helseth, Sawyer, Todd (Tammy) Brevig, Gillette, WY and Darin (Diane) Brevig, Mechanicsburg, PA; grandchildren, Patrick and Michael Brevig, Jeremy, Jennifer and Justin Helseth, Jarin Boyle, Chayce and Tanner Brevig; brothers, Clayton (Judy) Brevig Sawyer; also sisters in law, Lorraine Brevig, Lynnwood, WA and Shirley Brevig, Rapid City, SD; along with several nieces and nephews.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Judy and brothers, Errol, Harlan and Arlo.
Funeral service:
Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in Southside Church of the Nazarene, Minot.
Interment
: Sawyer Community Cemetery, RR Sawyer, ND
Visitation:
Friday from 2:00-7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
In lieu of flowers or plants, the family prefers memorials.
