Obituary

Doug Stevick , 76, Minot, formerly of Des Lacs and Berthold, died Saturday, April 4, 2020 in a Minot hospital.

Doug Stevick , 76, Minot and formerly of Des Lacs and Berthold died on Saturday, April 4, 2020 in a Minot hospital.

Douglas Norman Stevick was born on August 2, 1943 in Glendale, CA to Dale and Alice (Borud) Stevick. He was raised there and in Laurel, MT where he attended school. Doug enlisted in the United States Air Force on February 2, 1962 He served at various air force bases throughout the world including Zweibrucken and Hahn bases in Germany and two tours of duty at Bien Hoa AFB in Vietnam. His specialty in the air force included the use of his mechanical talents as an Aircrew Egress Systems Technician and Tactical Aircraft Maintenance Specialist. Following his honorable discharge as a Master Sergeant after 20 years of military service and numerous medals and awards on January 31, 1982, Doug was employed at the Vern Stevick Farm and as a bartender at the Eagles and Speedway. He became a civil service employee at the Minot Air Force Base and served as a mechanic and shop foreman for the heavy duty equipment at M.A.F.B. Following 25 years of service he retired on November 1, 2007.

Doug was previously married to Karolyn Brown, Sheila Harris and Merle Kalenze. During this time he resided in Des Lacs, Berthold and Minot. Doug married Audrey Ellwein Jacobson on November 11, 2011 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Minot. They made their home in Minot.

Doug was an active member of the Pheasants For The Future organization, Berthold American Legion Post where he served as Commander, President of the Jaycees and Volunteer Firefighter both in Des Lacs.  Also, he was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church and V.F.W. both in Minot and Belden Trailriders and was an award winning Chili Cook-off Chef on numerous occasions.

Doug's loving family Includes: his wife, Audrey; daughters: Deborah Lazzaretti of Chesterfield MO, Terri (Justin) Lochthowe of Minot, LeNaye Stevick (Justin Hanson) of Des Lacs; grandchildren: Fiona, Eliza and Victor Lazzaretti; Dustin (Kelley) Vigstol, Mckenzie Vigstol, Tanner, Mckenna, Stevie and Kali Nett; step children: Carmen (Duane) Haugen, Scott (Tammy) Jacobson, Candice (Paul) Heskin;  Doug also had numerous stepchildren, step grandchildren and step great grandchildren who also shared his life; brother: Jerry (Betty) Stevick of Peoria AZ and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents: Dale and Alice (Borud) Stevick, stepmother: Geraldine Stevick, wife: Merle Kalenze Stevick, siblings: Larry and Steve Ward and Jim Stevick.

Doug was exceptionally proud to serve his country.  One could say he never met a stranger and would give you the clothes off his back.  He had an extraordinary sense of humor and could bring the world together in the most trying times.  He will be dearly missed by so many.

Public Celebration of Doug's Life will take place this Summer.

Public Graveside Service and Military Honors:  Thursday, April 16, 2020 at 12:00 (noon) in Rolling Green Cemetery - rural Des Lacs.  Please abide by the social distancing recommendations. The Graveside portion of the service will not be live-streamed due to time constraints - it will be part of the recording which will be available approximately 2-3 hours after the service ends.

Public Drive-By Memorial Procession will be on Wednesday, April 15, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the North Dakota State Fairgrounds. All vehicles must enter the fairgrounds using Burdick Expressway East and will exit using Fourth Avenue N.E. The family will be present in their parked cars (facing south) in front of the ND State Fair Center. Everyone is required to stay in their vehicles.

Memorials are preferred to the VFW - Minot or Pheasants for the Future.
